Twins Dan and Dave Buck were card magicians when they pioneered the modern cardistry community. Inspired by Brian Tudor’s 2001 instructional VHS tape Show Off, the twins released their own tape called Pasteboard Animations. Later, the released the Dan and Dave System and The Trilogy, DVD sets that marked the divergence of card flourishing and card magic.
In 2013, the twins acted as hand doubles performing cardistry for the thriller movie Now You See Me. In addition, they launched Art of Play, a lifestyle company that produces luxury playing cards and other puzzles and games from around the world. The following year, the twins organized the inaugural Cardistry-Con in San Diego, bringing together some of the first cardists to host panels, screen videos, and engage in performances and workshops.
As cardistry grew, several news outlets, magazines, and other publications covered the story of the emerging artform. They often featured the Buck twins as pioneers of the movement.
